If the Emporia Spartans were riding high off their 58-29 takedown of Manhattan HomeSchool CHIEF last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Emporia fell to Junction City 46-41. Emporia was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Junction City apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.
Emporia lost on Thursday despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being River Peters, who scored 15 points. Another player making a difference was Sheldon Stewart, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Emporia's loss dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Junction City, their victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Emporia will take on Manhattan at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Manhattan and Emporia are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads. As for Junction City, they will be playing at home against Blue Valley Northwest at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Blue Valley Northwest knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine contests -- so hopefully Junction City likes a good challenge.
