The Jackson Red Devils will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against the Upson-Lee Knights at 6:00 p.m. on January 26th. Hopefully Jackson focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 29 on Saturday.
Last Saturday, Jackson lost to Mary Persons on the road by a decisive 51-37 margin. While losing is never fun, Jackson can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 385th, while Mary Persons is ranked 124th).
Despite the defeat, Jackson saw an underclassman step up: Sophie Logan dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. That's the first time this season that Logan scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Ariyah Burke, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 15 rebounds.
Upson-Lee posted their biggest victory since November 14, 2023 on Friday. They put the hurt on Pike County with a sharp 59-38 victory. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Upson-Lee.
Jackson has been struggling recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-14 record this season. As for Upson-Lee, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 7-11 record this season.
Jackson ended up a good deal behind Upson-Lee in their previous matchup on Wednesday, losing 55-39. Can Jackson avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
