5A Region III District 19 recap October 22, 2013
Fans got a thrill when Colby Chapman and Christian McStravick connected against Morton Ranch. The longest such play in 5A Region III District 19 this season, the connection resulted in 94 yards.
Katy Taylor moved up to 445 from 503 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Mustangs climbed the ranks as a result of falling to Cinco Ranch 10-0.
Strake Jesuit's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Chapman threw for 232 and 3 touchdowns and McStravick had 136 yards receiving. On the ground Dwyer Bucey chipped in 190 yards. Jonah Trahan helped Strake Jesuit's passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 50 yards.
He was 13-28 with 1 interception.
Major Adams made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Crusaders lost to the Mavericks. The 6-foot-2 defensive back grabbed 1 interception and recorded 1 fumble.
Chapman put up the best numbers through the air as Strake Jesuit lost to Morton Ranch. Chapman's favorite target this week was McStravick, who caught 6 passes for 136 yards.
James Clancy's team's Chapman and McStravick led the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-1 quarterback Chapman has thrown for 1,549 yards this season, while McStravick has 42 catches for 707 yards. Katy's Kyle Porter leads the league in rushing yards with 861.
A big matchup in 5A Region III District 19 this week will be when Seven Lakes takes on the Cougars. The Spartans are currently in second, while Cinco Ranch is in third.
Adding to the longest winning streak in the league this week, the Tigers beat Seven Lakes 17-12. The win marks seventh in a row for the Katy.
