Selah has gone 8-2 against Ellensburg recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Vikings will be playing at home against the Bulldogs at 3:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Selah's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They blew past Toppenish 24-0. The win was familiar territory for the Vikings, who have now won three contests in a row.
Aspin Grubenhoff made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Grubenhoff was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 4-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ellie Urlacher, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and five RBI. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 2.1 runs per game. Another player making a difference was Elliott McLaughlin, who went 1-for-3 with three runs and four RBI.
Selah was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .667. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.
While Ellensburg didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-13), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They were the clear victors by a 13-4 margin over Prosser on Friday. Winning may never get old, but the Bulldogs sure are getting used to it with their sixth in a row.
Like Selah, Ellensburg also got a great game from a two-way player: Olivia Carlson. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. Carlson has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season.
In other batting news, Sarah Stueckle was excellent, scoring three runs while going 2-for-3. Jordan Dykes was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-5.
Selah pushed their record up to 6-2 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 19.7 runs over those games. As for Ellensburg, their victory bumped their record up to 7-2-1.
Tuesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Selah has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .602. However, it's not like Ellensburg struggles in that department as they've averaged .495. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Selah's way against Ellensburg when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Selah made off with a 13-3 win. Will the Vikings repeat their success, or do the Bulldogs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
