Baseball Game Preview: Johnsonville Flashes vs. Latta Vikings

The Johnsonville Flashes will face off against the Latta Vikings at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Johnsonville barely beat Hannah-Pamplico the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Flashes put the hurt on the Raiders with a sharp 12-2 victory on Tuesday. The win was nothing new for the Flashes as they're now sitting on three straight.

Landyn Cribb was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Gavin Marlowe, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Johnsonville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .588. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .588 or higher in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Latta got the win against Marion on Wednesday by a conclusive 14-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Vikings.

Logan Byrd and Seth Minshew did most of the damage at the plate: Byrd scored two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while Minshew scored three runs while going 3-for-4. Byrd is becoming a predictor of Latta's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 5-7 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was BW Berry, who scored a run while going 1-for-1.

Johnsonville pushed their record up to 10-3 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Latta, their victory bumped their record up to 9-7.
