Saniya Burks of
Rice (Texas) continues her prolific scoring pace, leading the nation at a staggering 41.4 points per night according to stats submitted to MaxPreps.
The 5-foot-8 senior dropped 75 points last week in a 102-27 win over Kemp. In that contest, she hit six 3-pointers and made all 19 free throw attempts.
Burks has scored 26 points or more in every game this season for the 20-4 Bulldogs. The Texas State commit broke her own school record in Friday's win over Kemp, which she set 10 days prior.
The night after Joel Embiid went for 70 for the 76ers setting off a scoring frenzy in the NBA, Burks set a school record with 62 points, including 11 buckets from beyond the arc.
Burks has eclipsed 50 four times this season and has eight games of 40 or more. Rice is riding a 15-game win streak heading into the postseason.
She needs 47 points to reach 1,000 this season and sits at 3,659 in her career. A deep postseason run could push her over the 4,000 threshold.
Burks is hoping to help the Bulldogs advance past last year's regional semifinal appearance when she averaged 33.3 points per game.
