Baseball Recap: Tuesday's Win Is Battle Mountain's Third in Last Four Outings

Battle Mountain won the last time they faced Eagle Valley and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Huskies came out on top against the Devils by a score of 8-4. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Cole Lewis made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple and one run.

In other batting news, Battle Mountain let Jack Reed and Shaeffer Dodds8 run wild. Reed went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs, while Dodds8 got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Reed is becoming a predictor of Battle Mountain's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 6-1 (and 4-8 when he doesn't).

Battle Mountain has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Eagle Valley, their defeat was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 7-12.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Battle Mountain will venture away from home to face off against Rifle at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Huskies' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bears have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season. As for Eagle Valley, they are taking a road trip to challenge Glenwood Springs at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.
