II Section III recap Oct. 3, 2012
Chaparral was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from 10th to seventh in II Section III. Earlier in the week, the Firebirds triumphed over Notre Dame Prep 30-27.
Chaparral was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after beating the Saints 30-27. Dave Huffine's team came in at 25 in the state poll after placing at number 27 last week.
Trye Hatch was the best wideout in the league this week as Perry topped Vista Grande. Hatch tallied three receptions for 93 yards. Mikey Aguirre helped Perry's passing attack out by catching four balls for 50 yards.
Mauriece Lee was the most productive running back in the league this week. In six carries, he ran for 139 yards as Marcos de Niza beat the Spartans. Teammate Jacquese Moore added to the ground attack by rushing for 63 yards.
Dalton Sneed put up the best numbers through the air as Horizon defeated Sunnyslope. He finished with six completions for 170 yards and four touchdowns. Sneed's favorite target this week was Jason McLaurin, who caught one pass for 70 yards.
On the ground, Prescott's Brady Mengarelli has rushed for 1410 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Paul Elvira. The Marcos de Niza star has 32 catches for 740 yards.
One of the league's premier quarterbacks will go head-to-head with its top pass rusher when Cactus Shadows and the Huskies face off next week. Bryce Kinsler has thrown for 1513 yards and 12 touchdowns this season, while Kristian Salinas has terrorized opposing QBs to the tune of 7.5 sacks.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Horizon takes on the Falcons. Doug Shaffer's team is in second place, while Cactus Shadows is in 11th place.
The Firebirds and Notre Dame Prep played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with the Firebirds eventually emerging with a 30-27 victory. Emerson Carrethers ran for 133 yards and caught three passes for 15 yards in the win.
