Basketball Recap: Jamaal Miller Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Douglas Byrd

There's no place like home for Terry Sanford, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They strolled past the Douglas Byrd Eagles with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 73-56. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Bulldogs also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2022.

Terry Sanford's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jamaal Miller led the charge by going 6 for 11 on his way to 14 points in addition to five boards and three steals. Another player making a difference was Mason Walker, who shot 5-for-8 from long range and dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten boards.

Terry Sanford smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in January.

Despite the loss, Douglas Byrd still got an impressive performance from Geomari Young, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 12 boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthony Whitehead, who posted ten points.

The win got Terry Sanford back to even at 4-4. As for Douglas Byrd, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. After both having extra time off, Terry Sanford and Harnett Central will shake off the cobwebs and take on one another at 7:30 p.m. on January 3, 2025. Terry Sanford is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 62.7 points per game this season. As for Douglas Byrd, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on South View at 7:30 p.m. on January 3, 2025. South View also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 67.9 points per game.
