The San Pasqual Golden Eagles pushed their score all the way to 60 on Monday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell to St. Joseph Academy 64-60. While losing is never fun, San Pasqual can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1067th, while St. Joseph Academy is ranked 502nd).
San Pasqual's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Donovon Arnold, who scored 21 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaac Kohlmeier, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds.
It was another big night for Angel Ochoa, who scored 40 points along with five rebounds and four steals for St. Joseph Academy. That makes it 17 consecutive games in which Ochoa has scored at least a third of St. Joseph Academy's points. Another player making a difference was Justice Ahiafor, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds.
San Pasqual's defeat dropped their record down to 2-14. As for St. Joseph Academy, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-7.
San Pasqual's homestand continues as they prepare to take on Fallbrook at 7:00 p.m. on January 10th. Fallbrook is coming into the game on a four-game losing streak. As for St. Joseph Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against Orange Glen at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Orange Glen has now lost 13 straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 29.
