The La Grange Leopards will face off against the Caldwell Hornets at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Caldwell took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on La Grange, who comes in off a win.
On Tuesday, La Grange needed a bit of extra time to put away Giddings. They had just enough and edged out the Buffaloes 5-4. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Leopards as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.
Abby Cernosek was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Hannah Mitchell, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Caldwell didn't have quite enough to beat Smithville on Tuesday and fell 4-3. The defeat continues a trend for the Hornets in their meetings with the Tigers: they've now lost four in a row.
Samone Clark was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she tossed six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Clark was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run.
La Grange's win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 12-10-1. As for Caldwell, their loss dropped their record down to 14-10.
Caldwell's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. La Grange has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.7 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Caldwell, though, as they've been averaging only 3.5 strikeouts. Will La Grange keep running through batters, or will the Hornets buck the trend?
La Grange got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in April of 2025 against Caldwell by a conclusive 8-1 score. Do the Leopards have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Hornets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
