The Deep Run Wildcats are taking a road trip to square off against the Godwin Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Deep Run barely beat Manchester the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Wildcats were the clear victors by a 9-2 margin over the Lancers on Wednesday. With that win, the Wildcats brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.
Emily Plank spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on three hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Brooke Black was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Braelyn Baulsir was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
Deep Run hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Manchester struck out eight times.
Meanwhile, Godwin entered their tilt with Hermitage on Tuesday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Panthers a 19-0 shutout.
The team relied heavily on Mackenzie White, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and three runs. Isabella Liso also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.
Deep Run's record now sits at 11-2. As for Godwin, their record is now 9-4.
Godwin's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. Deep Run has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.8 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Godwin, though, as they've been averaging only 3.2 strikeouts. Will Deep Run keep running through batters, or will the Eagles buck the trend?
Deep Run got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in March against Godwin by a conclusive 11-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
