Basketball Recap: Hapeville Charter Takes a Loss

Hapeville Charter was the 59-54 winner over KIPP Atlanta Collegiate when they last played one another back in December of 2021, but their luck changed this time around. The Hapeville Charter Hornets took a blow against the KIPP Atlanta Collegiate Warriors on Tuesday, falling 75-43. The Hornets were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 41-17.

Several Hornets players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Christopher Person, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 14 rebounds. Person has been hot recently, having also posted three or more blocks the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Kody Brown, who posted 12 points and five boards.

Even though they lost, Hapeville Charter smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in four consecutive matchups.

KIPP Atlanta Collegiate's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Chane Bynum, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds. Brandyn Harris was another key player, going 5 for 10 on his way to 12 points along with five boards and five steals.

Hapeville Charter's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 5-9. As for KIPP Atlanta Collegiate, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season.

Hapeville Charter didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 62-56 win against Washington on the 14th. KIPP Atlanta Collegiate has also already played their next match, a 61-55 victory against Lovett on the 14th.
