The Rivercrest Rebels''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They fell to Alba-Golden 26-20. Rivercrest was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Alba-Golden apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in October of 2022.
Connor Herring and Jaquan Brown, Rivercrest certainly did their beston Friday to try and avoid the loss. Herring picked up 80 receiving yards and two touchdowns, while Brown rushed for 106 yards and a touchdown.
Rivercrest's defeat was their sixth straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 2-6. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 6-1 Cooper and 9-3 Honey Grove (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 59.2% over those games). Alba-Golden has been no stranger to the win column this season, as they've started out with wins in six of their first eight matchups, giving them a 6-2 record.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. The Rebels will have plenty of time to ponder what went wrong as they've got a bye scheduled next week. After, they'll take on Bonham at 7:30 p.m. on October 26th. They are coming into the matchup on a six-game losing streak. As for Alba-Golden, they will be playing at home against Como-Pickton at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Como-Pickton comes in on a streak of failing to score more than eight points in their last four games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
