The Parkland Matadors will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Hanks Knights at 6:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
Parkland struggled with three-point shooting accuracy on Tuesday (Canutillo was 21% better) and sadly the final score reflected it. The contest between the two teams wasn't particularly close, with Parkland falling 65-49. While losing is never fun, they can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 956th, while Canutillo is ranked 388th).
Despite the defeat, Parkland saw an underclassman step up: Keandrey Cager scored 15 points along with two blocks. That's the first time this season that Cager posted two or more blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Whitt, who scored ten points.
Meanwhile, Hanks' recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight loss. They fell to El Paso 48-43.
Parkland's defeat dropped their record down to 8-13. As for Hanks, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-12.
Parkland couldn't quite finish off Hanks in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 and fell 53-50. Can Parkland avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
