Jessica Campbell was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Campbell was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with six RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kendra Allen, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. Anna Wood was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBI.
Grayling was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .478. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Pinconning had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They blew past the Hornets 17-1. With that win, the Spartans brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.
Kaylee Rugenstein was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Another player making a difference was Layla Foco, who went 1-for-2 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple.
Grayling pushed their record up to 17-6-1 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Pinconning, their victory bumped their record up to 11-14.
Wednesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Grayling has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .482. However, it's not like Pinconning struggles in that department as they've averaged .433. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
