The Austintown-Fitch Falcons's three-game losing streak came to an end on Tuesday. They came out on top against Boardman by a score of 46-36. Given Austintown-Fitch's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 174th, while Boardman is ranked 391st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Marcel Finkley was his usual excellent self, scoring 17 points along with eight steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which he has scored at least 25% of Austintown-Fitch's points. Alex Hill was another key contributor, scoring six points along with seven rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Boardman lost, one person who can't be blamed is Terrell Mcdowell. Despite the final result, he scored 13 points. Mcdowell scored a full 36.1% of Boardman's points, the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Grayson Eicher, who scored eight points.
Austintown-Fitch's win bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Boardman, they bumped their record down to 3-8 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road.
Austintown-Fitch will stay at home for another game and welcome Howland at 7:00 p.m. on January 12th. As for Boardman, they will head out on the road to face off against Harding at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
