CARRIERE, Miss. - The defense contributed on the scoring end for
Pearl River Central (Carriere, Miss.) on Saturday, totaling 20 points as the Blue Devils bested Gautier (Miss.) 69-0.
After taking the lead on a
Steven Kubicki touchdown run in the first quarter, the Blue Devils led 43-0 at the half.
Pearl River Central expanded its lead to 55 points entering the fourth quarter. PRC scored two times in the third, including once on a
Curry Goodwin touchdown run.
Even though the Carriere school led by 55 points entering the fourth quarter, it poured the points on, scoring 14 in the fourth.
Javon Detto played well for the Blue Devils in the victory. The junior kicked two field goals and seven extra points.
Pearl River Central went into the matchup giving up only 8.6 points per game. The zero points that the Gators ended with were well below their average of 20.1 coming into the game.
When the two teams played each other last season, PRC came away with a 38-14 victory.
In a 5A Region 4 game next week Pearl River Central (8-1) takes on Pascagoula, and Gautier (4-5) will go up against Moss Point also in a 5A Region 4 game.
