Softball Recap: Northwood Comes Up Short

Northwood dropped their record down to 9-5 on Monday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost 14-7 to the St. Joseph Central Catholic Crimson Streaks. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Rangers have suffered since May 13, 2024.

As for St. Joseph Central Catholic, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-6. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 9 runs.

For St. Joseph Central Catholic's part, Stella Thomas made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits (and not a single walk). Thomas has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

In other batting news, Emma Kelbley was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. Gabby Adkins also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Coming up, Northwood will host Delta at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Rangers are facing the Panthers at the right time seeing as the Panthers are stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for St. Joseph Central Catholic, they will venture away from home to take on Calvert at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Crimson Streaks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Senecas have averaged an impressive 11.7 runs per game this season.
