After flying high against the North Harford Hawks last Wednesday, the Fallston Cougars came back down to earth. Fallston fell 47-40 to Mercy on Friday. Fallston lost against Mercy in their previous head to head back in December of 2019, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 55-43 score last time.
Bolesta Brooke and Ayla Galloway certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Brooke dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds, while Galloway dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds. Galloway scored a full 37.5% of Fallston's points, the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Natalie Wirth, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds.
Fallston's defeat dropped their record down to 5-2. As for Mercy, their win bumped their record up to 5-3.
Fallston won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Old Mill on December 30, 2023. Old Mill will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Maryland Rankings (they are ranked 180th, while Fallston is ranked 35th). Mercy won't have much time to rest: their next game is against New Town at 2:00 p.m. on December 30, 2023. New Town is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games.
