Basketball Recap: Santa Rita's Luck Changes for the Better on Tuesday

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Morenci, Santa Rita was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They took down the St. Augustine Catholic Wolves 64-50. The Eagles' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

David Gonzales was his usual excellent self, going 14 for 24 on his way to 33 points in addition to seven boards and five assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Michael Ross, who went 5 of 7 on his way to 12 points.

St. Augustine Catholic's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jovanni Fernandez, who posted 12 points and six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Carlos Acuna, who had 18 points in addition to seven boards and three steals.

Santa Rita moved to 1-3 with that victory, which also ended their five-game losing streak. As for St. Augustine Catholic, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-5.

Santa Rita didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 70-48 defeat against Miami on the 5th. As for St. Augustine Catholic, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 56-50 loss against St. John Paul II Catholic on the 6th.
