The Corydon Central Panthers will take on the Charlestown Pirates at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Corydon Central 3.5, Charlestown 2.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Corydon Central is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They never let Madison get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory. Considering the Panthers have won 11 matches by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Ava Gerdon made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Meghan Logan, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Addison Alford, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Charlestown hadn't done well against Silver Creek recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Pirates sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-0 win over the Dragons. That's two games straight that the Pirates have won by exactly two runs.
Charlestown's victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Hannah Burns, who went 1-for-2 with one home run.
Corydon Central is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.3 runs over those games. As for Charlestown, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 17-8.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Corydon Central hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .371. However, it's not like Charlestown struggles in that department as they've averaged .322. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Corydon Central came out on top in a nail-biter against Charlestown in their previous meeting on May 6th, sneaking past 1-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
