The Centennial Coyotes struggled with offensive rebounds on Monday (the Kellis Cougars had nine more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Centennial took a 41-33 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cougars. Centennial has struggled against the Cougars recently, as their match on Monday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, Centennial still got an impressive performance from Akasha Prpich, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. That was a full 51.5% of Centennial's points, marking the tenth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Kaleia Young was another key contributor, scoring five points along with six rebounds.
Kellis found their leader in underclassman Shanielle Mallory, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and seven steals. Mallory is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Nevaeh Limbacher, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Centennial has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season. As for Kellis, the victory (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 19-3.
Centennial will head out on the road to face off against the Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Paradise Valley has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Kellis, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against the Hawks at 5:30 p.m. Apollo is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
