On Tuesday, Fulshear narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Westside 45-42. Given Fulshear's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 68th, while Westside is ranked 410th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Fulshear got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Ruke Ogbevire out in front who scored 21 points. The contest was Ogbevire's 14th in a row with at least ten points. Sophia Semmler was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with nine rebounds.
Westside lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Neso Anisiobi, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. Anisiobi has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Ahmaiya Haulcy, who scored nine points along with three steals.
The win makes it two in a row for Fulshear and bumps their season record up to 12-2. As for Westside, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-7.
Fulshear will be home for the holidays to greet Fort Bend Marshall at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Fort Bend Marshall is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak. As for Westside, they will head out on the road to face off against Bellaire at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Bellaire focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 30 on Tuesday.
