The Governor Mifflin Mustangs will challenge the Hempfield Black Knights at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Governor Mifflin is coming into the match on a six-game losing streak.
Governor Mifflin lost 11-1 to Exeter Township on Wednesday.
Governor Mifflin saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Raeya Hoover, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one run. That stolen base marked the first that Hoover has snagged this season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hempfield). Everything went their way against Cedar Crest on Wednesday as they made off with an 18-3 victory. Considering the Black Knights have won seven contests by more than seven runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Rose Wendel was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (four). She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Chloe Diener, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with seven RBI, three runs, and two doubles. Those seven RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kiara Rodriguez, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
Hempfield kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive games.
Hempfield now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Governor Mifflin, their loss dropped their record down to 1-14.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Governor Mifflin hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Hempfield struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Governor Mifflin couldn't quite finish off Hempfield in their previous matchup back in April of 2019 and fell 3-1. Will the Mustangs have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
