If the Yavneh Academy Bulldogs were feeling good off their 48-23 takedown of the Coram Deo Academy Lions last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Yavneh Academy took a 64-49 bruising from Bishop Gorman on Thursday. Yavneh Academy was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Bishop Gorman apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
Yavneh Academy's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Daniela Hargrove, who scored 21 points along with nine rebounds and two steals. That's the first time this season that Hargrove scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Andrea Achar, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and six assists.
Bishop Gorman got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Grace Paniagua out in front who scored 14 points. Paniagua continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Molly Madsen was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with eight rebounds.
Yavneh Academy has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-5 record this season. As for Bishop Gorman, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-12.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Yavneh Academy will take on Lakehill Prep at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Lakehill Prep will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 1356th, while Yavneh Academy is ranked 627th). As for Bishop Gorman, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Cornerstone Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m.
