The Mathis Pirates suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Friday. They were outmatched by Aransas Pass at home and fell 100-50. If Mathis hoped to take revenge for the 79-40 defeat against they when the teams met, then they were left disappointed.
Mathis lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being EJ Montemayor, who scored eight points along with two steals. Another player making a difference was Brandon Reed, who scored six points.
Mathis' loss dropped their record down to 12-12. As for Aransas Pass, their victory bumped their record up to 11-17.
Mathis will head out on the road to square off against Taft at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Taft has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 606 points over their last eight contests. As for Aransas Pass, they will be playing at home against Odem at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
