Cincinnati Country Day has gone a perfect 7-0 against Purcell Marian recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Nighthawks will take on the Cavaliers at 5:00 p.m. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Cincinnati Country Day has struggled recently with three defeats in a row, while Purcell Marian will arrive with three straight wins.
On Monday, Cincinnati Country Day didn't have quite enough to beat Ross and fell 3-2.
Elijah Guttman was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Guttman was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Guttman wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Zach Pavlisko, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Purcell Marian got themselves on the board against Seven Hills on Monday, but Seven Hills never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 7-0 margin over the Stingers. That seven run margin sets a new team best for the Cavaliers this season.
Not much got past Ronan Ribar, who gave up just a hit and racked up nine Ks to keep Seven Hills off the board.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Sonny Ward, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Purcell Marian is 2-1 when Ward posts two or more runs, but 3-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Zavier Wright, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Purcell Marian's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-9. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Cincinnati Country Day, their loss dropped their record down to 6-6.
Cincinnati Country Day took their victory against Purcell Marian in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 11-3 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Nighthawks since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
