Softball Game Preview: Harmony Longhorns vs. East River Falcons

Harmony has gone a perfect 3-0 against East River recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Harmony Longhorns will host the East River Falcons at 7:00 p.m. Neither Harmony nor East River posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

Harmony took a eight-run defeat the last time they faced off against Timber Creek, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Harmony's pitchers stepped up to hand Timber Creek a 2-0 shutout on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Longhorns have posted since April 26, 2024.

Emerson Aslan was incredible, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run. Ava Carpenter also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, East River came up short against Astronaut on Friday and fell 5-2. The Falcons have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Katherine Sanchez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Gaby Angueira made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

The win got Harmony back to even at 4-4. As for East River, their loss dropped their record down to 5-3.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Harmony has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like East River struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Harmony skirted past East River 6-5 in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Will Harmony repeat their success, or does East River have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
