The Mitchell Mustangs's game last Wednesday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They snuck past Gulf with a 54-49 win. That's another feather in the cap for Mitchell, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Mitchell's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Brianna Coure, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 steals. Coure has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaylana Little, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Gulf's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Ariana Rodriguez, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 23 rebounds, and Brenniyah Hall who scored 15 points along with five rebounds and five steals. Hall is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season.
Mitchell has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. As for Gulf, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-8.
Mitchell will head out on the road to take on River Ridge at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. River Ridge will be looking to keep their ten-game home win streak alive. Gulf won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Robinson at 7:30 p.m. on January 12th. Hopefully Robinson focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up six last Wednesday.
