Softball Recap: Thursday's Win Is Alexandria's 11th in Last 12 Outings

Alexandria barely beat Ruston the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Alexandria was the clear victor by a 14-2 margin over Ruston on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won 14 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Lauren Bonnette spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on six hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Mary Claire Brinkman was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 4-for-5. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Anniston Fairbanks, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Alexandria was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .419. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ruston only posted a batting average of .250.

Alexandria has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.4 runs over those games. Ruston's defeat was their seventh straight at home, which dropped their record down to 8-13.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Alexandria will challenge North DeSoto at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. North DeSoto's pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so Alexandria's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Ruston, they will take on Pineville at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
