The high school football season in Oregon came to a close over the weekend with state champions crowned at multiple venues.
West Linn was among the victors, beating
Sheldon (Eugene) 23-14 in the Class 6A state championship game. That victory helped propel the Lions to the No. 1 ranking in the final state MaxPreps Top 25.
Under first-year head coach Jon Eagle, West Linn won its last 11 games of the season en route to the title. With future Washington State signal caller Sam Leavitt under center, the Lions averaged 47.4 points per game this fall and outscored their first three playoff opponents 164-24.
The only unbeaten team in the final rankings is Class 3A champions
Cascade Christian (Medford), which capped its 13-0 campaign with 41-6 over
Kennedy (Mt. Angel) in the title game. The Challengers averaged over 50 points per game on the season and won every contest by at least three touchdowns.
