The Indian Creek Redskins are packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game of the season: they will face off against the Martins Ferry Purple Riders at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between Indian Creek and Edison, and Indian Creek kept the tradition alive. Indian Creek came out on top against Edison by a score of 8-5 on Tuesday.
McKenna Scott was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits. Scott was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Riley Sadler was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Emma Vok, who scored a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Martins Ferry got themselves on the board against The Linsly School on Tuesday, but The Linsly School never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Cadets with a sharp 10-0 victory. The Purple Riders haven't had any issues with the Cadets recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Like Indian Creek, Martins Ferry also got a great game from a two-way player: Maddie Lucas. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over six innings pitched. Lucas was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Giana Chirpas, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and one stolen base. Kendyl Brandon was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3.
Martins Ferry's victory was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Indian Creek, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.
