The Lakewood Tigers will square off against the Battle Mountain Huskies at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Tuesday, Lakewood came up short against Denver South and fell 55-44. While losing is never fun, Lakewood can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 87th, while Denver South is ranked 34th).
Despite their loss, Lakewood saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Dyani Parrish, who scored 16 points, was perhaps the best of all. Parrish scored a full 36.4% of Lakewood's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tessa Sanders, who scored 11 points along with 8 assists and 3 steals.
Even though they lost, Lakewood were working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Denver South only posted four.
Meanwhile, Battle Mountain was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Tuesday as they fell 49-43 to Thomas Jefferson. Battle Mountain has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
The losses dropped Lakewood to 2-3 and Denver South to 2-1.
Everything came up roses for Lakewood against Battle Mountain in their previous matchup back in December of 2022 as the team secured a 63-22 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Lakewood since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
