The Towns County Indians will head out on the road to face off against the Commerce Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Commerce took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Towns County, who comes in off a win.
Towns County has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four matches by 21 points or more this season. They took their game on the road on Saturday with ease, bagging a 64-26 win over Lincoln County. Given Towns County's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 202nd, while Lincoln County is ranked 426th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Towns County got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Laura Mauldin out in front who dropped a double-double on 10 points and 12 rebounds. Kaleigh Beaver was another key contributor, scoring 9 points along with 7 rebounds and 6 steals.
Meanwhile, Commerce came up short against Lumpkin County on Saturday and fell 46-36.
Malay L miitchell put forth a good effort for the losing side as she dropped a double-double on 23 points and 10 rebounds. The game was her ninth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Raven Parks, who scored 2 points along with 10 rebounds.
Union County's win bumped their season record to 0-0 while Towns County's defeat dropped theirs to 5-2.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Towns County have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 34.4 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Commerce struggles in that department as they've been even better at 41.8 per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
