The Cardinal Gibbons Chiefs will head out to take on the Martin County Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Cardinal Gibbons made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Park Vista, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Chiefs put the hurt on the Cobras with a sharp 8-2 victory on Wednesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Chiefs.

Lydia Berent made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 17 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Elena Elash, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.
Meanwhile, Martin County hadn't done well against South Fork recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Tigers were the clear victors by a 13-5 margin over the Bulldogs. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Tigers considering their two-run performance the match before.
Like Cardinal Gibbons, Martin County also got a great game from a two-way player: Brealyn White. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. White was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. That home run marked the first that she launched this season.
In other batting news, Kalei Bertke was incredible, going 4-for-5 with six RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Another player making a difference was Ciana Vargas, who scored three runs while going 2-for-4.
Martin County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are 6-2 when they post 11 or more hits.
Cardinal Gibbons pushed their record up to 16-3 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Martin County, their record now sits at 10-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Cardinal Gibbons has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Martin County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
