KAITLYN MARSH made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Niles West, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They put the hurt on Regina Dominican with a sharp 16-3 win on Friday. With that victory, the Wolves brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.
Niles West let Maise Parylak and Penny Hutchison run wild. Parylak went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple, while Hutchison went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Those three RBI gave Parylak a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sarah Park, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Niles West always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .613. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Regina Dominican only posted an OBP of .280.
Maine West pushed their record up to 15-1 with the win, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.9 runs over those games. As for Niles West, their record is now 8-13.
Niles West's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Maine West has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .446. It's a different story for Niles West, though, as they've only averaged .362. Will they be able to contain Maine West's hitters?
Maine West beat Niles West 6-3 when the teams last played back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Warriors since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
