Marshall and Paris are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2018, but likely not for long. The Lions will head out to square off against the Tigers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Paris took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Marshall, who comes in off a win.
Marshall had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 12-run drubbing they dealt Tri-County [Kansas/Shiloh/Oakland] on Tuesday. The Lions blew past the Titans 13-1. The Lions haven't had any issues with the Titans recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.
Marshall let Kyla Gustafson and Lynn Welborn run wild. Gustafson scored two runs while going 2-for-3, while Welborn scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. McKenzie Davis also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen bases of the season.
Marshall hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Paris challenged Riverton Parke on Wednesday. The Tigers fell 7-2 to the Panthers. Having soared to a lofty 19 runs in the game before, the Tigers couldn't push the score so high this time.
Alison Wyrick made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole three bases. Kayleigh Miller was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Marshall's victory bumped their record up to 11-3. As for Paris, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-10 record this season.
Paris' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Marshall has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.6 hits per game. It's a different story for Paris, though, as they've been averaging 9.3 hits. Given Marshall's sizable advantage in that area, the Tigers will need to find a way to close that gap.
Marshall took their win against Paris when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 6-0 score. Will the Lions repeat their success, or do the Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
