The Dundalk Owls are taking a road trip to challenge the Hereford Bulls at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Dundalk is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 12.1 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, Dundalk got the win against Patapsco by a conclusive 18-3. The Owls haven't had any issues with the Patriots recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.
Julie Burger was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with four runs, three RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, Dundalk got a massive performance out of Makayla Woods, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. Kenisha Gelpi was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Dundalk always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
The scorekeeper got an easy start on Tuesday as neither Hereford nor Western Tech & Environmental Science made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Bulls had just enough and edged out the Wolverines 4-3. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bulls.
Like Dundalk, Hereford also got a great game from a two-way player: Lauren Clement. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Clement was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Alex Frank was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those triples were her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Morgan Hall, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Hereford's victory was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Dundalk, their record now sits at 6-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Dundalk has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 6.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Hereford struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Dundalk couldn't quite finish off Hereford in their previous matchup back in March and fell 3-1. Can the Owls avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
