McDonald County is 1-9 against Mt. Vernon since September of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Mustangs will face off against the Mountaineers at 7:00 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Thursday.
McDonald County will bounce into Thursday's matchup after beating Aurora, who they had gone 0-5 against in their five prior meetings. The Mustangs were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over the Houn Dawgs on Tuesday. The Mustangs not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since October 22, 2024 (when they won 3-0).
One reason for the win was McDonald County's just kept getting better, winning each set by more points than the last. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-21, 25-16, 25-12.

Among those leading the charge was Leslie Velazques, who had ten digs and six assists. That's the most assists she has posted since back in September.
Meanwhile, Mt. Vernon came into Tuesday's contest having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. Everything went their way against East Newton on Tuesday as they made off with a 3-0 win.
Mt. Vernon never let East Newton on the board, but things got pretty close in the second set. The match finished with set scores of 25-15, 26-24, 25-19.
Mt. Vernon's victory bumped their record up to 9-6-2. As for McDonald County, they picked up their first home win, bumping their record up to 2-14-2.
McDonald County might still be hurting after the 3-0 loss they got from Mt. Vernon when the teams last played back in October of 2024. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
