Two dominant guards in Donovan Hamilton and Grant Porath are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Hamilton Southeastern Royals will be playing at home against the Brownsburg Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Hamilton Southeastern waltzed into their match on Saturday with three straight wins but they left with four. They secured a 75-69 W over Southport. Given Hamilton Southeastern's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked ninth, while Southport is ranked 95th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Hamilton Southeastern had a senior duo take command as Hamilton scored 26 points along with seven rebounds and Nate Orr shot 5-for-9 from deep and almost dropped a double-double on 23 points and nine rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hamilton has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Deion Miles, who scored six points along with five assists and two steals.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Brownsburg's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 61-57 hit to the loss column at the hands of Noblesville.
Defeat or not, Brownsburg got some senior leadership from Porath and Jordan Lomax. Porath scored 21 points along with six rebounds and three steals, while Lomax. scored 17 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Porath has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last five times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Spencer Porath, who scored three points along with two steals.
Brownsburg struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only two offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Hamilton Southeastern is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season. As for Brownsburg, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-10.
Friday's game is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Hamilton Southeastern have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 43.4% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Brownsburg struggles in that department as they've made 42% of their threes this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Hamilton Southeastern didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Brownsburg when the teams last played back in February of 2023, but they still walked away with a 60-54 win.
