The Atlantic Christian Cougars will face off against the Lower Cape May Tigers at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Atlantic Christian sitting on six straight wins and Lower Cape May on four.
Atlantic Christian gave up the first runs on Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They put the hurt on The Pilgrim Academy with a sharp 11-1 victory. Considering the Cougars have won seven contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Carter Knuth was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Adam Schlundt and Luke Odell did most of the damage at the plate: Schlundt went 2-for-3 with four stolen bases and four runs, while Odell got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four stolen bases and three runs. Those four runs gave Schlundt a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ethan Costello, who earned one run and two stolen bases.
Meanwhile, Lower Cape May never let their opponents score on Thursday. They blew past Bridgeton 14-0.
Like Atlantic Christian, Lower Cape May also got a great game from a two-way player: Sean Kelleher. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Kelleher was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Ashton Ray was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Lower Cape May's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 6-14 when he doesn't). Matt DiCave was another key player, going 2-for-4 with five RBI and one run.
Atlantic Christian pushed their record up to 11-4 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Lower Cape May, their win bumped their record up to 9-15.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Atlantic Christian has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Lower Cape May struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
