The Higley Knights lost against the Campo Verde Coyotes back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. Higley was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 49-48 to the Coyotes. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Higley in their matchups with the Coyotes: they've now lost four in a row.
Despite the defeat, Higley saw an underclassman step up: Ava Taliaferro scored 19 points along with two steals. It was the first time this season that Taliaferro scored 15 or more points. Cadence Murdough was another key contributor, almost dropping a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds.
Kelsey Watts was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 20 points and 16 rebounds for Campo Verde. Watts has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 15 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Madison Coger, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten rebounds.
Higley has not been sharp recently as the team's lost six of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 15-9 record this season. As for Campo Verde, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-7.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Higley will take on the Colts at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Casteel focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up six on Tuesday. As for Campo Verde, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against the Black Hawks at 7:00 p.m. Williams Field is looking to tack on another W to their seven-game streak on the road.
