Jenkins County is 9-0 against Portal since October of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Jenkins County War Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Portal Panthers at 7:30 p.m. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Jenkins County sitting on nine straight victories and Portal on three.
Jenkins County stacked a eighth blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 28-7 margin over Emanuel County Institute.
Jenkins County relied on the efforts of Rob-travious Coney, who rushed for 91 yards and two touchdowns, and Christian Wilson, who rushed for 156 yards and a touchdown on only nine carries. Wilson's longest rush was for an incredible 70 yards.
Meanwhile, Portal owes their defense a big pat on the back after their performance on Friday. They blew past McIntosh County Academy 27-0 on the road. The result was nothing new for Portal, who have now won six games by 23 points or more so far this season.
It was another big night for Elijah Coleman, who rushed for 213 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 11.8 yards per carry, and also threw for 71 yards and two touchdowns. Amir Jackson also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Jenkins County's win was their sixth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 9-0. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 2-7 East Laurens and 2-7 Treutlen (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 37.2% over those games). As for Portal, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season.
Jenkins County beat Portal 18-6 in their previous meeting back in November of 2022. The rematch might be a little tougher for Jenkins County since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
