Lake George (N.Y.) trailed
Whitehall (N.Y.) by 24 points at one time, but managed to come all the way back and secure a 40-30 victory on Saturday.
After taking the lead on a
Josh Hoagland touchdown run, the Railroaders went into halftime with a 24-6 lead. The Warriors scored the winning points with a two-point conversion that came in the fourth quarter.
Despite scoring 12 points in the third, Lake George still trailed by 6 points going into the fourth quarter. But 22 points in the fourth helped LG pull out the victory.
The Warriors didn't take the lead for good until the the fourth quarter when it ran in a two-point conversion.
Whitehall's Hoagland played well. The senior running back ran for two touchdowns.
The victory is a complete turnaround from last season's game between these two teams, which WHS took, 30-0.
The defeat comes as a step back for Whitehall, which notched a 56-0 victory over Hoosic Valley in its previous outing. With the win Lake George extended its winning streak to three games. The loss snapped the Railroaders' 2-game winning streak.
Lake George (3-3) goes up against Salem in a Section 2 D - North game matchup next week, while Whitehall (3-3) locks horns with Warrensburg also in a Section 2 D - North game.
