The Sterling Tigers's six-game losing streak came to an end on Saturday. They blew past Mitchell 53-33. The victory was just what Sterling needed coming off of a 50-24 loss in their prior matchup.
Leading Sterling to victory were Tatym Dempcy and Taylor Tonche. Dempcy dropped a double-double on 18 points and 14 rebounds, while Tonche scored 17 points along with eight steals and seven rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Tonche has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Ellie Soper, who scored six points along with eight rebounds.
Despite the loss, Mitchell saw an underclassman step up: Addy Bowlin scored 21 points along with four steals. That was a full 63.6% of Mitchell's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaitlyn Keener, who scored two points along with seven rebounds.
Sterling's victory bumped their record up to 6-10. As for Mitchell, they are on a 14-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-16.
Sterling will be playing in front of their home fans against Weld Central at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Weld Central is no doubt hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses. As for Mitchell, they will head out on the road to challenge Morrill at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
