Basketball Recap: Columbia Skates Past Purvis with Ease

Columbia won the last time they faced Purvis and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Columbia Wildcats took their matchup with ease, bagging a 62-34 win over the Purvis Tornadoes. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Wildcats have posted against the Tornadoes since January 10, 2022.

Columbia's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Avyon Lewis led the charge by dropping a double-double on 11 points and 12 boards. Lewis is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last five games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Christian Expose, who posted 17 points in addition to five assists and three steals.

Columbia smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in four consecutive games.

Purvis' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jace Gipson, who put up four points and nine rebounds. Another player making a difference was Jeremiah Daniels, who had nine points.

Columbia's record now sits at 3-7. As for Purvis, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-3 record this season.

Columbia didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 57-44 win against West Marion on the 13th. As for Purvis, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 60-50 defeat against Perry Central on the 12th.
