If the Marshall Hilltoppers were feeling good off their 87-59 takedown of the Cook County Vikings last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Marshall took a 76-63 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Huskies on Saturday. Marshall has not had much luck with the Huskies recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Pillager to victory, but perhaps none more so than Christian Hooge, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Hooge has scored at least a third of Pillager's points. Eli Miller was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with five assists and five rebounds.
Marshall has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-10 record this season. As for Pillager, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-8.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Marshall will square off against the Rails at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Pillager will be staying on the road on Monday to face off against the Cardinals at 8:00 p.m. on February 5th.
