Softball Recap: Montgomery County Sets Scoring Season-High Against George Rogers Clark

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Montgomery County). Everything went their way against the George Rogers Clark Cardinals on Tuesday as they made off with a 16-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Indians, who have now won five contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Ryleigh Martin was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Madison Cox was a standout: she fired off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 3-for-4. She has been hot recently, having also posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Kinley Auxier was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs.

Montgomery County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive games.

Montgomery County's win bumped their record up to 7-1. As for George Rogers Clark, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-2.

Looking ahead, Montgomery County will host Great Crossing at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Great Crossing's pitching crew has only allowed 3.3 runs per game this season, so Montgomery County's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for George Rogers Clark, they will challenge Paris at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Cardinals' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Greyhounds have averaged an impressive 6.8 runs per game this season.
