Paoli had lost four straight at home, but on Friday they dropped down to 1-9 to make it five. They fell just short of the Lanesville Eagles by a score of 8-7. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Rams of the 3-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.
Sofia Smith stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those stolen bases were her first of the season. Alyssa Jones was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
As for Lanesville, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.6 runs over those games.
On Lanesville's side, Makenna Mills was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). Mills has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Lanesville let Brooklyn Albers and Cheyenne Gunn run wild. Albers went 2-for-4 with two runs and two doubles, while Gunn went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those two hits gave Gunn a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Izzie Rawlings, who earned two RBI and one run.
Paoli wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 4-2 win against Shoals on the 2nd. As for Lanesville, they have also already played their next contest, a 4-2 defeat against North Harrison on the 4th.
